Persistence - The photo is of a dried crawling vine branching out of a seam in a concrete retaining wall near an interstate highway.
It took me three tries to get this image… The first time, I was lazy and hand-held the camera under direct sunlight. The second time, there were a few small dead leaves clinging to the vines that disrupted the lines. The third time, I had my tripod and it was a cloudy day at Winter’s end. However, the name doesn’t refer to the three attempts, it refers to a life-form that is determined to survive even in the most inhospitable of environments.

Shaped Stone, Tallulah Gorge, Georgia, 1993 - Years ago, I would take a trail down into the river bed of Tallulah Gorge. Some of the most magnificent boulders are down on the floor of the canyon. A few are as large as a small house.
I’ve always loved the monstrous face in this stone. I think that it was created when the boulder broke free from it’s original position high on the cliffside.

Solitary Leaf on Granite, Georgia, 1992 - I made this image while hiking in the north Georgia mountains with a college buddy. I used a small flash to highlight the leaf against the stone.

Afternoon Silhouette, White Sands National Monument, New Mexico, 2000 - I enjoy wide open spaces. Whether they’re at the ocean or the desert is irrelevant.
